A Manchester Piccadilly taxi alternative

Arriving by train is the easy part, but finding your ride afterwards can be less so. Platforms are busy and bags are heavy, so a queue at the rank is the last thing you want after a long journey.

With MCH, a private chauffeur is already there. You book ahead, and we wait for you with a digital name board, so you walk out of the station and straight into the car. Because the booking is made in advance, you are not looking for a Manchester Piccadilly taxi on the day, and your price is confirmed in writing first.

We cover both main stations, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria, and the pick-up works a little differently at each, so the next two sections explain exactly how.

Which station

Which station will your train arrive at?

Manchester has two main stations, and they serve different directions, so it helps to know which one is yours.

Manchester Piccadilly station transfers

Because Piccadilly is where most of our station guests arrive, here is how the pick-up works from the platform to the car.

  1. 1

    Book ahead

Tell us your train, the arrival time and where you are going, and we confirm the plan in writing.

  2. 2

    We wait at the exit

Your chauffeur parks in the short-stay car park and waits at the main entrance and exit on Fairfield Street, holding a digital name board.

  3. 3

    Help with luggage

If you ask, we can come upstairs near the platform and wait there, so you have a hand with the cases.

  4. 4

    Straight on

Then we load the car and drive you to your hotel, the airport or home.

Meeting pointFairfield StreetMain entrance and exit
Where we park
In the short-stay car park, so we are close to the entrance.
How you find us
Look for the digital name board at the main entrance and exit.

Parking and drop-off
Short drop-off is free, and we do not normally have a parking charge at Piccadilly.

So please tell us your train and the time it is due when you book, and then we know when to be there.

Victoria Station ApproachM3Station transfers

Manchester Victoria station transfers

Parking at Victoria is very limited, so the pick-up is different from Piccadilly, and we tell you about it before you travel.

  1. You leave the station

Walk out towards the area near Hotel Indigo and the National Football Museum.

  2. We share our location

We send you our live location, so you can see exactly where the car is.

  3. You find the car

Your chauffeur stays with the vehicle, and you step straight in.

Good to know

Because parking is so scarce, we usually park near Hotel Indigo and the National Football Museum and stay with the vehicle. Sometimes we can wait at the top end of the taxi rank if you are visible, although that can be tricky.

For that reason, we ask you to check your messages when you arrive, so we can find each other quickly.

Late trains

If your train is late

Trains run late, so we plan for it, and we do not leave anyone stranded.

First 30 minutesFree waiting from the booked time, whatever the reason.
After thatWaiting charges apply, and we wait as long as we possibly can.
A very long delayWe may have to treat the booking as a passenger no-show.

Also, please tell us as soon as you know your train is delayed, because that helps us plan around it. Our waiting time terms explain the details.

Both get you from the train to your destination, so here is how they differ when you arrive with luggage.

Your train details tell us most of what we need, so a station and a time are enough to begin.

  1. 1

    Tell us your train

Send the station, the arrival time, where you are going and how many are travelling.

  2. 2

    Choose the car

We suggest a V-Class for most groups, or an E-Class or S-Class for one to three.

  3. 3

    Receive a written quote

You see the journey and the price in writing before you commit.

  4. 4

    Step off the train

Your chauffeur is waiting, and you are on your way.

Questions about station transfers

Station transfers: your questions answered

Where will my chauffeur meet me at Manchester Piccadilly?

Your chauffeur waits at the main entrance and exit on Fairfield Street, holding a digital name board with your name. We park in the short-stay car park, so we are close by.

Can you meet me on the platform?

Yes, if you ask. We can come upstairs near the platform and wait there, which helps when you have heavy luggage. Please mention it when you book.

What if my train is late?

Please tell us as soon as you know. We include 30 minutes of free waiting from the booked time, and after that waiting charges apply. We wait as long as we possibly can, although a very long delay may mean we treat the booking as a passenger no-show.

Is this a Manchester Piccadilly taxi alternative?

Yes. A private chauffeur is a calmer Manchester Piccadilly taxi alternative, because your car is booked in advance, waits for you with a name board and comes with a price in writing.

Is there a charge for parking or drop-off at Piccadilly?

A short drop-off is free, and we do not normally have a parking charge at Piccadilly. However, if a third-party charge ever applies, we will tell you.

Where do you pick up at Manchester Victoria?

Parking at Victoria is very limited, so we usually park near Hotel Indigo and the National Football Museum and stay with the vehicle. We share our live location with you, which makes finding the car simple.

Can you wait at the taxi rank at Victoria?

Sometimes we can wait at the top end of the taxi rank if you are visible, although that can be tricky. For that reason, we ask you to check your messages when you arrive.

Where can you take me from the station?

Anywhere you like, for example your hotel, the airport, your home or office, a venue, or a long journey across the UK. Tell us where the journey ends, and we will quote it in writing.

Can I book the return journey too?

Yes. The journey to the station and the journey home can go on one booking, so your chauffeur meets you when you arrive back. We quote both in writing.

How much luggage can the car take?

A Mercedes V-Class carries up to six passengers and six cases. However, for a larger party, ask us about an Executive Sprinter or a minibus.

Which station will my train arrive at?

Most trains from the south, such as London, Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton and Cardiff, arrive at Piccadilly, and so do the Glasgow and Edinburgh services. Most trains from the north and east, such as Leeds, York, Newcastle and Blackpool, arrive at Victoria. However, some services call at both, so please check your ticket, or send us your train details and we will confirm the station.

What if we have to cancel?

Because MCH reserves a chauffeur and vehicle once payment is taken and the booking is allocated, refunds are not available after that point. Standard notice is 24 hours, and our terms and conditions explain the rest.
